Atlanta Area Information
Atlanta Georgia
is the Crown Jewel of the South!
Atlanta is the capitol of Georgia and although it has a population of only around 500,000 in the actual city limits, there are almost 6.5 million people in the Metropolitan area and the number is by growing by around 1000 people a day. (about 350,000 per year). The metropolitan area is a large area with not a lot of natural boundaries to slow growth. Most big cities in America are near water and have a natural boundary to slow the spread of development, but that’s not true here! Of course now that we are deep into one of the worst droughts on record, I think many regret that we are not!
The city is located about 100 feet above sea level and the southern part of Atlanta is located on the Easteren Continental divide. That means that streams east of the divide flow to the Atlantic and those to the west flow to the Carribbean. The topography is very hilly with a lot of creeks and ravines which help create pockets of trees and parks that give Atlanta a very rural feel. My home is 10 minutes from the heart of downtown yet from my yard I cannot see neighbors and we live under a canopy of oak trees.
Atlanta is an exciting metropolis which has something for everyone to do. We are the capitol of Georgia and the financial center of the south. We have major Universities, major league sports, CNN, CDC, and have some major corporations headquartered in Atl. Examples of these are Home Depot, Coca Cola, Delta Airlines, & UPS. One of the largest and busiest airports in the world serves Atlanta GA. There is a southern hospitality that people notice when they come here that is not an act.
