About Inman Park Inman Park is one of Atlanta’s first suburbs and yet it is now one of the neighborhoods that today, is considered to be very close in. It is just about a mile east of the State Capitol building in downtown Atlanta. There is an assortment of 1920-1940 bungalows mixed in with the larger homes as some of the larger lots were subdivided and some smaller homes were built over the years. There have been quite a few large new homes built over the last ten years. The neighborhood is on the National Historic Register and has a collection of true antebellum southern mansions.
The neighborhood declined in the 60’s and 70’s and many of the larger homes were subdivided into apartments and rooming houses and allowed to go somewhat into disrepair. There was a great resurgence of value in the in-town areas which started in the mid eighties and there has been a lot of renovation and rebuilding of the large Victorian mansions over the last 20 years.
The Inman Park Neighborhood Association is strong and has kept the historic flavor alive by pushing for rezoning to a historic district.
Inman Park Attractions
Inman Park Festival is one of Atlanta’s favorite neighborhood festivals, happens every spring and it should not be missed! There is a parade, an artist market which has more of the local small artists and a lot of vendors selling everything from food and drink to antiques, and a wide variety of products that you don’t see at other more formal and “judged” art markets. Its campy, eclectic and a lot of fun!
There has been a great development over the last ten years of an area that bordered Inman Park and was filled with junkyards that now has condo buildings, great restaurants and a real weekend destination on Krog Street and Highland Ave.
